They were tired. Needed food. Wanted to relax. They just wanted each other's company. All they wanted for more than anything was to make good with that little time they so rarely got to spend with each other.
She was hungry. Hungry enough to be a brat. Maybe she wasn't really that hungry. But just pretending to be hungry meant that he would shower her with more attention and affection. He found it funny and really did give her that much more attention, like he always did.
On a bus. One of those cold ones where the air con leaves mist on all the windows making it absolutely impossible to see the outside. He was sure that this bus was headed to town. She knew from the moment she entered the bus that they were not at all going towards town.
He had his hands full, trying to entertain this little baby of his while seeking out their destination. Suddenly the bus took a huge turn. She suggested, "Baby. Let's get off here. Seems like something fun is happening there." It was a festival of sorts. He wasn't interested. He hated crowds. Especially when all he had with her were 2-3 precious hours. Crowds were the last place to be at.
As the bus passed by the festival of sorts, she turned back to look. There were fireworks. She nudged him and told him what she had missed. All his fault.
So the stop passed. Suddenly she looked out and managed to catch the sign at the bus stop. They were nowhere near town. They were heading towards one end of the country. She looked at him with dagger eyes. But deep inside, she didn't really care if they ended up in a deadend, because she was with him. Everything else was simply inconsequential.
He kept telling her he knew where they were headed. Deep down, he had no clue. Guillemard road became Boulevard. Suddenly the bus was whizzing through red-light areas. Nowhere near town. He was a little afraid. Was she really hungry? Did he really make a mistake? Should they have trusted her bearings instead?
Suddenly he said, "Lets get off here". At the middle of nowhere. She was a non believer by then. But she was just happy to get off the bus. They were in the middle of nowhere. There seemed to be a few eateries further down though.
Thus they walked. She wasn't in the mood for anything else so they settled for MacD's. They sat outside. The busride had been cold and left their hands freezing. Plus,he needed to smoke.
He fed her a bite of his burger which she hungrily gobbled down. Out of nowhere, they heard music. "Nothing's ever gonna change our love." He was stunned. She was shocked. They turned to see a couple singing and playing them a song.
Who were they? Why didn't they see them before? How did they just suddenly appear?
They took a charity donation of 5 dollars and they took a few steps away. He turned to find them. They had disappeared.
They looked at each other and smiled. The magic.
