::Peeves

I'm a little peeved about a lot of things so i'm just gonna blog it all. Me being diplomatic me.. I'm likely to step on a few toes in the midst of this blog entry. So the same rules apply. You don't like the entry? Don't read it? You still want to go ahead and read it? Then just shut up already.
My first few peeves are related to a pet project that i've been involved in the last few months. My life,my knees and possibly my ability to walk straight for the rest of my life has been sacrificed for this project and i really think we all have the right to say and speak what we want. Once again, my opinions are solely that of mine and no one else from the group and most importantly, i'm not trying to garner votes,support or an audience. Just trying to air my views on my own platform(gee! get with it already!).
I stumbled upon a friendster profile of a certain dance group. I shall refrain from any explicit details but there are just some things i don't quite understand. Firstly, why put yourself up by putting someone else down? Are we all so full of it or unable to accept our own flaws that we find gratification in being one up above the next soul? Sometimes perhaps we just have to take things in our stride. If someone doesn't choose you or doesn't think you're worthy of going to the next round then just live with it. I know of a premium dance group that got kicked out in the first quarter finals and i think they left with class. At the end of the day, let the audience decide your worth eh?
Somehow, i also feel strongly that some things have been fairly misunderstood by certain groups of people. Bringing a MTV feel to a local dance competition is indeed commendable. But more importantly the means of getting there is of significance i feel. Perhaps you first have to look at the underlying principles of MTV appeal. Is this fit for your target audience? Are they ready for it? Are you conveying the accurate aspects that they are looking for? If you do and they don't appreciate it, then fine. But if a larger majority of people seem to not respect your ideas then maybe you have to rethink your perspectives.
Well and good, you've got the curves and the charisma. But sometimes you also got to realise it takes way more than that. I'm not attesting to know what it takes to wow the audience. Honestly, we've gotten more negative feedback then anything.
I also heard about this one boy who got whacked for saying something on Dhool. I feel really sad for that person. That person who whacked the fella because you definitely need some anger management classes. Yes, its competition and it toughens one up and even helps improve the dance-scene in the Indian media industry. But isn't that taking it just a tad too far? I mean, i'm just praying no one decides to burn my face right after this la.
I say we should all approach this as mature young adults who are intent on bringing their own flavours to the dance scene. Not as people who are not willing to learn anything new or become more versatile dancers with the feedback we are given. With that said, kudos to many groups who actually did present completely new dance styles and whom moved away from their usual hiphop confines. Amazing the things they are capable of!
Oh and i understand that as with most people NUS Vidiyal has also gotten its own set of detractors. I believe that some think that we've made it thus far only because we are NUS. Honestly, i wish it was that simple because its truly backbreaking to dance and practice so hard. If we were really competition favorites i'd much love to not sacrifice so much time when i could actually be studying. Sorry guys, it just doesn't work that way. My groupmates(me included) have officially shed tears,sweat and blood(bruises too!) for dance and it'd be awfully idiotic if we were the ones who enter through bias. (we should actually try just standing on stage one time and see if we get thru. what say you guys?)
For those of you who think we're riding on the coattails of other NUS dance groups then i'd just like to say that i think we are trying to carve an identity for ourselves. Previous NUS groups were amazing and outshone a lot. It isn't easy trying to break away from that but i think we are doing a pretty fine job. And by the way most dancers from these previous groups have actually been supportive of our endeavours and do agree that we are actually finding a spot for ourselves in the scene.
Now that i'm done with those peeves. Here are a few more(for the whiney brat that i am!)
I've always been the type of person who says what i want to and i have never really given two hoots about likeminded people who feel the need to say things at face value. With that said, i'm also not a fan of people who lack the right tone when speaking. I believe that we are all equal and there is just a certain way of speaking to people. Especially when you're not paying them and when they don't owe you a living. I think we should all relook the way we talk and what we say and perhaps learn to be NICE.
Oh and what is it with Beauty Pageant runner-ups and C.M.Is(cannot make its) and their whole "I'm the world's most beautiful person"? No.1: You didn't actually win the crown. No.2: Find some new dance moves woman!
Okay.I'm done!
